Thanks for making the cabin air filter easier to change on the E82 vs the E36. Also, that’s one big ass air filter. Gallon of washer juice for scale.

How many washer fruits does it take to extract a gallon of juice?

About the same, the bulkhead panel comes off with just a few bolts.

To change the cabin filter in my MkV Jetta, I have to recline the passenger seat all the way and then lay in it upside down with my head in the footwell.
Quite the head rush when I finally sit up.

The E36 involved removal of the glovebox

Meanwhile, on E39s, it’s the simplest thing you will do. There’s two, one on each side and in a housing held by a clip. Lift it’s lid, swap filters

I feel like I did mine without pulling the glovebox, but instead did some hand gymnastics that probably involved growing an elbow in the middle of my forearm. The e46 however is child’s play, I did it in under 3 minutes with no tools before I came into work last week.

My E39 is literally popping two latches and changing the filters on both sides. E36, I can do w/o removing glove box now, but still requires that upside down back breaking over door sill position.

TWO! I have to do 3! That’s 50% more work! I’m going to write an angry letter to BMW NA.
